Against Offending Pages with the Content Advisor to stop nudity, other bad content on the web Safe surfing isn’t just about protecting against attacks. It’s also about safety from unwanted content—
especially for your children. The reality is, the Web today is a large, unruly, often unsavory kind of place; far too many websites include content that most of us would deem inappropriate, especially for younger kids. Microsoft knows this, and includes in Internet Explorer 8 a feature called Content Advisor. This is essentially a content filter that can be used to block access to sites that meet specified criteria.

For example, you might configure Content Advisor to block all sites that include nudity, or that contain bad language. Here’s how to activate and configure the Content Advisor:

Step1. From within Internet Explorer, click the Tools button and select Internet Options. (Alternately, open the Control Panel and select Internet Options.)

Step2. When the Internet Options dialog box appears, select the Content tab.

Step3. From within the Content Advisor section, click the Enable button.

Step4. When the Content Advisor dialog box appears, select the Ratings tab and select a category (Language, Nudity, Sex, Violence, and so on).

Step5. Adjust the ratings slider to the right to increase the tolerance for this type of content. (Leaving the slider all the way to the left is the least tolerant level.)

Step6. To create a list of websites that are either always viewable or never viewable, select the Approved Sites tab. Enter the URL in the Allow This Website box, and then click the Always button (to always view the site, regardless of its rating) or the Never button (to completely block access to the site).

Step7. Click OK, and you’ll be prompted to create a supervisor password. After you enter a password and click OK, the Content Advisor will be activated. tip .

To disable Content Advisor, return to the Content tab in the Internet Options dialog box and click the Disable button.
